Wildlife Victoria

Charity: Animals, Environment

Wildlife Victoria is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based organisation that has been at the forefront of wildlife rescue and rehabilitation since 1989. We receive no government funding.

Our teams of extraordinary volunteers provide a 24-hour, 7 day a week, wildlife rescue service. An important part of this service is to foster community awareness and an appreciation of the intrinsic value of native wildlife and its habitats.

Wildlife Victoria is able to respond swiftly and effectively to all manner of wildlife rescue situations from orphaned ducklings to injured adult kangaroos, by drawing on our comprehensive network of rescuers and transporters, wildlife shelters, emergency services, government agencies and commercial operators.

It is important to us to maintain a ‘care and communication’ network across Victoria to help and support those who care for and rehabilitate orphaned and injured animals.

With dedicated teams of volunteers we can coordinate and undertake large-scale wildlife rescues created by natural events and emergencies such as extreme heat, bushfires, floods and oil spills.

The Victorian Bushfires of early 2009 had a devastating effect on our native wildlife. And as much as our wildlife have suffered, the toll could have been much worse if not for the commitment, courage and resilience shown by hundreds of remarkable volunteers.
