The loss of a son or daughter, brother, sister grandchild is devastating. Many speak of the ‘ripple effect’ of such a tragedy, but for those closest it is more akin to a tsunami. As a Mutual Support Self Help (peer support) service provider, the benefits of being supported by others who have been through a similar experience cannot be underestimated. It has been found that those who have been in similar situations are ‘empathically attuned’ and can provide a level of help and support that is unique in its understanding, connectedness and compassion. First the MSSH 'model' provides personal connection, then it provides an ongoing and long term community - a safe place for healing and ‘rebuilding’ - which is essential to long term 'recovery'.
TCF is part of a world wide self help organisation that was established in Victoria in 1978.
